Obituary

Dora Lorene (Behne) Sales passed away peacefully on Friday, December 28, 2018 at the age of 93 in Kingsland, TX. She was born in Guymon OK on Nov 13th, 1925 to Ed Behne and Edna (Hockett) Behne. She had 7 siblings: three older (Pearl, Mary, Lewis) and four younger (Albert, Bob, Jim, Dorothy).

Dora left Guymon at age 17 and moved to Dalhart TX. She married JC Sales and they moved to Junction TX. JC had one daughter, Darlene Brown who was born November 18th, 1946, and together JC and Dora had one son, Michael Edward Sales, born on November 29th, 1960. They moved to Kingsland TX in 1970. They opened a grocery store in Kingsland and lived in a travel trailer behind the store. There wasn't much room in the trailer, and not even a kitchen, but there was one in the store, so this is where Dora did all of the family's cooking and entertaining when the guys would come over to play dominoes at the store.

After 4 years of living in the trailer and running the grocery store, the family moved out to their home on Indian Trails where JC and Dora lived out the remainder of their lives. JC worked at Steinway Lumber and Dora worked at Winn's variety store followed by Duckwall's, where she retired in December 2007.

JC was big in Masonry and together he and Manuel opened the Masonic Lodge in Kingsland. Dora was just as big in the Eastern Star and loved to get together with her ladies' groups. Dora loved to cook, and for every holiday would cook meals and deliver them to the elderly who weren't able to get out for a holiday meal. She also sent holiday "care" packages to Darlene every Christmas.

Both Mike and Darlene blessed JC and Dora with grandchildren who adoringly referred to them as Nana and Pah-paw. The grandkids and even great-grand kids have many stories about being out at Nana and Pah-Paw's, climbing trees, shooting guns, enjoying Nana's many sewn and crocheted gifts and clothes, and eating Nana's home cooking for every meal, gathered around the round kitchen table. This was a home away from home the grandkids loved visiting.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband JC, son Michael, parents Ed and Edna, and siblings Pearl, Mary, Lewis, Albert, and Dorothy.

She is survived by her brother Jim and Charlotte Behn of Purcell, OK, brother Bob and Ramona Behne of Guymon, OK, daughter Darlene Brown of Citrus Heights, CA, granddaughters Taylla and Kevin Sanders and sons Theo and Kingsley of Port Angeles, WA, Heather Schopen and sons Jamyn, Ronan, Declan of Issaquah, WA, Kristi Pawlowski and Theresa Gamble and daughter Charli of Sacramento, CA, Kayla Bruner and children Brigid, Drake, & Carra of Corpus Christi, TX, grandsons Richard and Cristin Hubbard and children Jadyn, Calvin, Kenneth, and Cecilia-Mae of El Dorado, KS, Kurt Bruner of Corpus Christi, TX, several nieces and nephews, and long-time close friend Paula Maxey of Kingsland, TX.

Viewing will be from 3:00-5:00 PM on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Putnam Funeral Home, 145 Texas Ave, in Kingsland. Funeral will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Putnam Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, 4219 Park Rd, Burnet, TX
