Doris F
King
d. Oct 13, 2015
Doris Faye King, 90, passed peacefully into her saviors arms on Tuesday October 13, 2015. Born August 11, 1925 in Brownfield, TX to Austin and Drucilla Spivey, Doris was a devoted wife and mother, who also found time to earn an Associates Degree in Nursing. With nursing skill and maternal instinct she raised her five sons in Odessa TX, moving to central TX with her husband Robert in 1980. Doris was an accomplished artist and seamstress, as well as a dedicated volunteer for the Hoover Valley VFD. Her church brought her much joy and comfort, and she was a devout and active member of several Primitive Baptist Church congregations.
Her cooking was legendary, and her family, friends and fellow congregants were frequent and happy recipients of the many delicious creations from her kitchen. Of special note were her chocolate cream pies which have been imitated but never replicated. A true Texas girl and avid football fan, Doris loved the Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys and spent many fall afternoons juggling food service while cheering on her teams.
Doris was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 51 years Robert J. King, sister Iva and brother Leroy. She was blessed with, and is survived by her five sons, Michael and Bonnie King of Killeen TX, Robert Jr. and Lisa King of Dripping Springs TX, Anthony and Sue King of Uhland TX, Mark and LauraAnn King of Leesburg VA and Daniel King of Edna TX, as well as sister Violet Dyess, 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Services for Doris will be held at the Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne funeral home in Kingsland TX on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., followed by internment at Lake Hills Memorial Park, Park Road 4 in Marble Falls TX. In lieu of flowers, Doris would have been touched if any donations were made to the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in McMahan, TX.
