Eula B
Atkinson
d. Oct 17, 2014
Eula Maxine Brown Atkinson (Mackie) passed away on October 17, 2014 in Tyler, Texas.
A graveside service is planned for 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 25 at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet, Texas.
She was born in Sugar City, Colorado on May 24, 1921, daughter of Benjamin Stokes Brown and Eula Maxie Pearce. She lived in Sugar City, Colorado, San Antonio, Houston Northside, Houston Heights, Bellaire, Lake Buchanan near Burnet, and Tyler, Texas. Mackie graduated from Jeff Davis High School, Houston, Texas. She married Thomas Vincent Atkinson in 1939. Mackie and Tom enjoyed a happy marriage until his death in 1997. She has been a resident of Meadow Lake Senior Living Community for over 3 years.
Mackie spent her adult life as a homemaker, an excellent cook and seamstress. She loved to travel. Church community was important to Mackie, and she was active in Bellaire Methodist Church and Burnet Methodist Church. After Tom retired in 1976 and they moved to Central Texas, she surprised us all when she took up painting. Now her family and friends treasure the almost 100 wonderful paintings Mackie created.
Mackie was a warm, loving person with a wonderful sense of humor, as witnessed by her family and many friends.
Mackie was predeceased by her siblings: Clara, Margaret, and Bill.
She is survived by her children: Thomas V. Atkinson, Jr. (Arden), Mary Howard (Phil), and Tempe Bacarisse (Dan); her grandchildren: Janet Howard-Miller (Aaron), Alline Atkinson Beutler (Dan), Mike Howard (Kelly), Thomas Winfield Atkinson (Wenyue), and Sarah Bacarisse Klepfer (Chris); and great-grandchildren: Claire Beutler, Eliza Beutler, Abby Howard, Ella Howard, Anna Howard, Frederick Atkinson, Charlotte Atkinson, Charlee Klepfer, and Nicholas Howard-Miller.
The family would like to especially thank all those who cared for her the last few years including the Visiting Angels and Hospice of East Texas.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make donations in Maxine's name can be made to an adoption fund at Chase Bank: "Nicholas Christopher Tucker Donation Account by T.V. Atkinson" (Will be Nicholas Christopher Howard-Miller after adoption is final.); or to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd, Tyler, TX 75701.
Services under the care of Edgar & Jenkins Family Funeral Home.
