Harold W.
Gilbert Jr.
Dec 29, 1922 — Mar 10, 2019
Harold W. Gilbert, Jr. was greeted by our Heavenly Father on March 10, 2019 at the age of 96. Harold's answer when asked, "How are you doing," was always "I'm gonna be a good 'ol man someday". He absolutely lived up to that mindset. Born December 29, 1922 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Proceeded in death by parents, Harold Sr. and Lora and wife of 69 years, Lorene.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Highland Lakes United Methodist Church, 8303 Ranch Rd 1431, Buchanan Dam, Texas 78609.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church just prior to the start of the service. Interment to follow at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park, Burnet, Texas 78609
Harold served in the Army Air Corps, stationed in Liberal, Kansas, married Lorene and upon discharge worked for Hughes Tools in Oklahoma. Relocating to Houston, Texas the young couple settled into raising their family. He made a career change and was employed at York Corporation learning the air conditioning trade. In 1958, Harold, along with his brother in law, James Warner, started an air conditioning company, G & W Services Co., in Houston. Now celebrating 60+ years' service and is still in operation today. He and Lorene retired in 1980 to Inks Lake in the hill country. There, he became involved in several organizations including but not limited to, the Buchanan Dam Volunteer Fire Department, Lions Club, and the Llano County Appraisal District. All the while being available to help in times of need to all his Roadrunner Lane neighbors. Harold and Lorene were hospitable and generous as wonderful and willing hosts to many friends and families throughout their lives. Wonderful memories have been made at the Gilbert Lake house, with Harold as the hub of the wheel on Roadrunner Lane. Harold, better known as "Papaw" was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle. A friend to all coming in contact with him. He will be missed terribly and certainly never forgotten. Harold is survived by sons, Donald and wife Lynn and James and wife Debbie, beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and those he chose to be "Papaw" to. Never did it matter if they were related or not, he claimed them all regardless.
The family would like to thank Texas Home Health Hospice and the wonderful and caring staff at Country Oaks Assisted Living. In Lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Highland Lakes United Methodist Church.
