Mildred Marie
Pirtle
May 13, 1926 — Jan 17, 2017
Mildred Marie Wear Pirtle, age 90 ½, passed peacefully from this earthly life to her heavenly home on Tuesday, January 17, 2017. She was living in Austin, TX at the Buckner Villas Retirement Center. She was born in Andice, TX to Eduorda and Roy Wear on May 13, 1926. Marie grew up in Burnet, attended Burnet schools, and enjoyed participating in Burnet schools' alumni activities for many years. She loved school and continued her quest for learning for her entire life.
Marie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 ½ years, James McCoy Pirtle, her son Edwin McCoy Pirtle, and her grandson Edward Joseph Pirtle. Marie and James were married on May 25, 1942 prior to James' deployment to Europe during WWII.
Marie is survived by her daughter Judy Baskey Moore (Dr. Eugene Moore) of Seattle, WA and her daughter Beverly Ann Thomson (John Thomson) of Austin, her son James Wear Pirtle, her daughter-in-law Mary Pirtle, five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and their spouses, five great grandchildren, and nine step-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
After moving from Burnet in 1956, Marie and James lived in Arlington for twelve years where they reared their children. Marie was a stay-at-home mom, working only part-time jobs in child care, as an Avon Representative, and in baking beautiful pies for local restaurants. After the children were grown, Marie decided to pursue her dream of becoming a florist. She volunteered her time at the Cannon Florist in Arlington to learn the skills she needed. Within two years, she and James were the proud owners of their own company, Burnet Florist and Nursery.
Marie was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Burnet and Hillcrest Baptist Church in Austin. She was an avid reader, who particularly enjoyed reading biographies and cooks books; enjoyed the challenge of solving puzzles of all kinds, and loved making scrapbooks. Marie was an entertaining story teller and was known for her sense of humor. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family and her faith, above all else.
A memorial graveside service to celebrate Marie Pirtle's life will be held on Monday afternoon, 23 January, at 2:00 p.m. at Lakeland Hills Cemetery in Burnet. Marie's family would like to thank all of Marie's devoted caregivers, especially those from Hospice of Austin.
Arrangements were made by Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet.
